Tarea para 20/12

Write two sentences about things that have happened to you (or make it up) with technology. Each sentence must include both a preterite and imperfect verb. Use imperfect to describe what was going on when something specific happened (preterite). Join the two clauses in the sentence with y, cuando, mientras, etc.

Examples:
Mi madre hablaba por teléfono cuando sonó mi móbil.
Mientras yo hacía mi tarea en la computatora, no pude quardar mi archivo de Word.

The verbs are underlined. Remember pude? It is poder in the irregular.

Preterite Review Guides

There is a great summary of the preterite tense here. Also, you always have my guide. Keep reviewing.

December 6, 2011

Tarea para 7/12

Do one of these two DO activities and print it out, or do the one on page two of the DO packet from yesterday, as I said in class. This HW is optional and considered a makeup if you have missed one previously.
Your "mandatory" homework is to read carefully and think about the object pronoun grammar summaries that I gave you at the end of class. We'll have a "quiz" on object pronouns tomorrow.

December 5, 2011

Tarea para 6/12

Complete the last two pages of the direct object packet that I gave you today. You could print out the online version as well if you like, and then complete and bring it in tomorrow. Remember to ask yourself, are we talking about "to/for whom" or "who/what" is receiving the action? The former is the le/les and the latter is the lo/la/los/las.

December 2, 2011

Performance Assessment Due Monday

Write a lengthy paragraph, 1/2 to 1 page, which describes what happened in the role plays yesterday. You must use traer, pedir and servir (in the preterite, of course) at least 2 times each. Each time you use traer or servir you must use an indirect object pronoun, such as le, les, me or nos. Be prepared to turn it in at the beginning of class. Your writing will be scored with this rubric.

Miercoles y tarea para 28/11

During class on Wednesday, you'll complete the verb categorization chart and turn it in. Then you'll need to complete the entire big indirect object packet. It really isn't that bad. Finally, you be getting a packet to review the use of traer, pedir and servir in the preterite. So turn in the chart on Wednesday and turn in the IO and traer/pedir/servir packet on Monday after break. If you work hard you should be able to get pretty much all of it done in class on Wednesday.

What Gets Lost in Translation?

Here is the podcast we started to listen to about language, culture and translation. What happens when things get lost in translation?

Tarea para 21/11

Practice stem-changing verbs in the preterite. Remember none of the -AR and -ER verbs change stems in the preterite: only -IR verbs do. There are two types of stem-changes with -IR preterite verbs: e to i and o to u and only the Ud and Uds forms change. Do parts A and B on studyspanish.com.

Also, do this additional verb conjugation drill. Only one of these verbs is stem-changing, the rest are irregulars that we have previously studied.

Do up to and through "Quiz 40" in the indirect object pronoun packet that we started today.

!Que les vaya bien!

Message for Spanish II Level I

Look over to the left at my Tweets. I post there often. I just posted the verb review guide that I was showing on the board today. I fixed the formatting errors in it. It is pretty useful if you are rusty with verb conjugations. Check it out. You need to have all these verbs down by the middle of next week so we can move on.

Present Tense Vosotros

All verbs in conjugated in the vosotros form have accents like this:
-ar goes to  -áis
-er goes to  -éis
-ir goes to  -ís
(So the type of verb indicates which letter has the accent.)

Except, one syllable words don't have accents.
ser goes to sois
ver goes to veis
dar goes to dais
ir goes to vais

First "Small Assessment"

La Vuelta a España

Due: Monday, September 12

Task: Turn in a single piece of paper which describes one of the riders in this year's Vuelta a España.

Background: The Vuelta (Tour of Spain) is one of the three biggest stage races in professional cycling, one of the "grand tours," and it ends on Sunday. You are encouraged to watch parts of it over the weekend and we'll watch what we can in class. Use www.steephill.tv as your initial source for links to watch the race. Each day the stage starts airing at approximately 10:00 am and ends at at about 11:30 am. You can watch it in English (better for learning about the sport) or Spanish (obviously, better for your Spanish acquisition). Remember, cycling is a very popular sport in Europe, especially Spain.

Requirements:

Go to  www.steephill.tv/vuelta-a-espana/ and learn as much as you can about the Vuelta. Look at the list of riders on the right side of the page. Choose a rider to investigate. Google the riders name and/or team. From there you should be able to learn some basic information about the rider. If you are having trouble, try another rider. Include the following information about the rider.
  • Name
  • Team
  • Origin (where he is from)
  • Age
  • A photo of the rider
You must write this information in complete sentences. Remember, Sr. Jannke always expects you to go above and beyond. Your grade will be based on completion, accuracy and effort, each weighted equally.

Mas practica con verbos

First practice the new verbs we learned until you get sick of it  http://bit.ly/jLMc2m.

Then, go to each of these pages. Read the explanation of how to conjugate the verbs. Though some of the verbs are new to you the rules on how to conjugate them should be familiar to you. After reading about the verbs create your own quiz and practice (you can skip vosotros if you like).
