Enjoy Break!!!
Like I said in class today/yesterday....you all did a fabulous job writing complex subjunctive sentences about Sweet 15. Frankly, I plan to save them and use the as models for future students. You worked very hard over the last week+. Each of you made many mistakes, but you also continually improved your writing and sentence structure, in most cases nearly to the point of "perfection." I am really proud of your efforts! I hope you have a great break. No homework in Spanish! Well, no formal homework, but if you get the urge or want to keep the flame lit, take a minute or two over break to listen to a song in Spanish or tune into channel 18 (often called the "Spanish Cannel," but really called Univision) or text a friend in Spanish or anything else you can imagine. !Disfruten!

Observations on Spanish 3 Food Presentations
I have to say, this has been an impressive and enjoyable week so far. Obviously, food is fun to eat, but what has struck me the most so far is the diversity, authenticity and quality of the food, and on top of that, the detail in your presentations has been simply wonderful. I am particularly impressed with your use of direct object pronouns combined with affirmative and negative commands. Way to push and go above and beyond!

SP3 Homework for Columbus Day Weekend
OK, let's keep reviewing. So sometime over the weekend take a look at the second half of the 100 most common Spanish verbs. Pick 5 verbs that you are NOT so familiar with and click to the right of the verb, where is say something like "pagar conjugations," or whatever verb you picked. Take a look at the conjugations. You should see that the verb is pretty normal in the future and imperfect tenses. Now, for each of the 5 verbs, determine what "category" of verb you would consider it in the present and preterite tenses. By category I mean like boot, irregular, etc. for the present and things like UV, Jotas, -car verbs, etc. for the preterite. If you what to do this for more than 5 verbs, go for it! (Remember what I said at the end of class, this is not a graded assignment, but you still need to do it to keep up.)

On Tuesday or Wednesday of next week (September 25/26) you be doing your first Performance Assessment of the year (remember this contributes to a category which is worth 50% of your quarter grade). You'll work in class, alone and without any notes; just you a pen and paper. I'll be giving you 3 pictures to describe. You'll describe each in a paragraph, so 3 paragraphs in all. Here is a description of the pictures/task.
- You'll see a picture of a situation at school. You'll describe what is happening in the picture using the present tense.
- You'll see a picture of a situation at home. You'll describe what happened in the picture using the preterite tense.
- You'll see a picture of a situation with people on vacation. You'll describe what happened in the picture using the preterite tense.
First Small Assessment Thurs/Fri (20/21)
You'll present your A conocerte mejor skits on Thursday/Friday. Your presentation will be evaluated individually using the oral presentation rubric. Below is a checklist to be sure you are meeting all of the content requirements. Your presentation will be graded as a Small Assessment.
- Do you have past and present tense verbs?
- Does everyone speak more or less the same amount?
- Do you use correct grammar?
- Will the presentation last 3-5 minutes?
- Did you turn in one copy of the skit to Mr. Jannke
Homework for Thurs/Fri (20/21)
Look at the picture in Práctica 4 on page R27 of your book (also below). Write 3 sentences using present tense verbs to describe what people are doing. Then, write 3 more sentences using past tense (preterite) verbs to describe what people did.
September 17, 2012

Spanish III SMART Lesson from Friday
This is the lesson I did on the board for block 6 on Friday. It just gives the conjugations for the irregular preterite verbs, but in addition there is a good slide on the common irregular endings, the ones that look like a paddle (er/ir) and then the -ar verb ending show up in the yo/Ud forms. Finally, there is my explaination of how to create questions. Check it out.... SMART Lesson, September 14, Block 6.

Block 3 "Homework" for Thursday and Monday
So, I messed up on the time in class today and did not pass out your homework; still adjusting to the new schedule. Anyhow, your next homework assignment, which will now be due Monday, is to complete two verb tables, one in the present tense and the other in the preterite past tense.
For Thursday: To prepare for Thursday's class, please review the present and preterite tenses again. In addition, please review the imperfect and future tense verb conjugations.

I graded your essays today. They were better than we all expected. Anyhow, as I said today in class we'll move through this mini-unit on indirect object pronouns quickly. I had planned to have you do a mini-assessment on IOs on Monday, but I just found out that they have scheduled an assembly during block 2 on Monday. I want to get this assessment in before the end of the quarter (Monday), so we'll have to move it to this Friday. Take the time to read up on indirect objects tonight or tomorrow night here: http://bit.ly/GWpTdU.

Block 2 Sub Plan for Friday, Feb 17
Hi guys. Nice job on your assessments yesterday. We'll finish up editing videos on Tuesday. You will be given a rather large grammar review packet. In it is essential, basic grammar rules. Much of it you learned last year and some is new to you. You all were saying that you seemed to be lacking some of the basics to putting sentences together in Spanish. Understanding the grammar in this packet will REALLY help you. So, what I want you to do is to read through the entire packet. I want you to write in it. Think about what you understand or don't understand. Think about new topics that appear that you would like to learn more about. While your are technically just reading and taking notes, this activity requires MUCH THOUGHT to be of lasting value. Please make your effort today the best it can be. If you do, I promise you, understanding all of that stuff will take you miles in Spanish! Good luck and enjoy your long weekend!!!

Finally, it can't hurt to review the vocab from Spanish I that I gave you at the beginning of the course. Enjoy the weekend.
